Haematology of Birds and Microbial Analysis of Recycled Poultry Litter Treated with Graded Levels of Aluminium Sulphate (Alum)

The study was carried out at the poultry unit of Department Animal Science teaching and research farm, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to determine Chemical Microbial Analysis Poultry Litter Treated with Graded Levels Aluminium sulphate (Alum). alum used obtained from Sabon-garimarket in Zaria, Kaduna State. (alum) applied wood shavings by mixing it thoroughly using hands covered hand gloves. rates application as follows: T1 control (normal litter no alum), T2 (5% kg weight litter), T3 (10% litter) T4 (15% litter). Five sets samples were fortnightly each pen different locations i.e. four corners centre which microbial load measured. At termination experiment (day 56), two birds having representative weights for group (6 per Treatment) selected 1.5ml blood taken via wing vein. Haematological parameters analyzed an auto haemo-analyser (BC2800 vet haemo analyser) Clinical Pathology Laboratory, Faculty Veterinary Medicine, Zaria. This result shows significant (P<0.05) difference among all analysed except MCHC. a decrease total bacteria, E. coliand Salmonella spp. treated groups (5%, 10% 15% compared (0% mould yeast significantly increased litter).The conclude that treating recycled can reduce litter. Birds reared on have higher haemoglobin PCV control.
